A piece in the Guardian recently revealed that the British pay more for childcare than anywhere else in the world – and that planned cuts in tax credits will discourage women from returning to work. The Guardian estimates that it costs around £218 per week for a full-time nursery place for a child under two in London, and £176 for the rest of England. Childcare, however, remains an unavoidable expense for many working parents. Companies can help by instituting a childcare voucher scheme that will save parents money and also encourage mothers and fathers to return to work by showing that employers really do want to help.
